Da Nang is the largest city in Central Vietnam and overall fourth largest city of Vietnam. Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are the two popular cities of Vietnam but interestingly Da Nang is the most urbanized and modern city of Vietnam. Moreover its close proximity to several tourist towns makes it a very important base in Vietnam travel plan. Da Nang is surrounded by mountains on one side and a sea beach on the other side and river flows across it. You can not ask for a better combination in a city.

Da Nang is well connected to to other cities in Vietnam. It has an international airport and Visa On Arrival facility is available at this airport. I took a domestic flight from Hanoi to Da Nang by Vietnam Airlines which costs around 2000 INR. You can either stay in the city which is very to Han river or you can decide to stay in one of the thousand hotels near beach. The area after crossing Han river towards sea beach is highly touristy. I haven’t seen so many hotels in single area.

The Han river has following  four major bridges which make Da Nang a unique city of bridges.

1.  Han River Swing Bridge: This is an engineering marvel and has a suspension in the center. The bridge has walking paths on both sides and you can stand in center enjoying the view of river with traffic crossing over behind you. The changing colors of lights on the bridge makes it so beautiful that you can enjoying watching it for a long time both standing on it and from a distance. Once you cross this bridge and reach towards town,  you can move towards bank of river which is Da Nang’s cultural center. I also witnessed locals enjoying dance in group and thus giving a whole area a fare like feeling.

2. Thuan Phuoc Suspension Bridge : I saw this Bridge from a distance. It is Vietnam’s longest suspension bridge.

3. Dragon and Tran Thi Ly Bridges : These two bridges were very recently built and were inaugurated on 29th March this year which makes the whole Han River part of Da Nang more beautiful. It’s a 6 lane dragon shaped steel bridge and one of its’ kind in design in the world. The second new bridge is called Tran Thi Ly and is given a shape similar to Y sailing into sea.

These four bridges act like pride of Da Nang city and are a major tourist attraction for any one visiting Da Nang. In the next post we will cross the bridges and move towards sea to visit the beautiful beach.
