On My First Solo Trip

Turkey  /   /  By Makrand

Few months back I wouldn’t have imagined in my wildest dream about a Solo trip. The concept of solo trip appeared crazy to me. I knew that people around the world have been doing this for years but I had a lot of doubts to be clarified. My mind had questions like – Will I not get bored ? Will it be safe ? Wouldn’t it be awkward to eat alone ? With whom  I will communicate for  many days ? And the list goes like this.

Then slowly I started getting answers to these questions. I contacted few people who had solo travel experience and read their experiences. The confidence started building up and it seemed doable. I realized it may be a good or bad experience but I have to give it a try. So finally with a just do it attitude, I planned the trip and now on final phase of the tour.

So where am I ? Ideally I should have started with a weekend trip. But I took a big leap and moved out of India for a week. I am in a country which is in western Asia. Wait, I am in a country which is in eastern Europe. In fact I am in a country which is in both Asia and Europe. The country where East meets West. The country which has been home to many civilizations. And the country which has been news for some recent protests.

As you may have guessed by now, I am roaming around in Turkey. It has been a fantastic experience so far. I couldn’t have chosen a better country for start. I am coming back with lot of stories and of course with lot of pictures :-).

So stay tuned for upcoming series of posts on this wonderful country. Till then have a nice weekend and have fun.

Would have loved if more detailing is done such as luggage, formalities such as baggage clearance, restrictions on baggage , immigration procedures etc. , which will be helpful for aspiring solo travellers like me.

I too went on a Solo trip to Turkey in May this year for 3 weeks.
It was awesome experience. Luckily or unluckily I got to be part of Gezi park protests which happened in May-June. The spirit of Istanbul was awesome.

3 weeks in Turkey must have been amazing, I just had 1 :-(. What all other places you visited apart from Istanbul ?

I started off with Troy, Pergamum, Ephesus. A day in Pamukkale. Checked out Aphrodisias and had a wonderful stay in Fethiye. Just loved Fethiye and paragliding there. And went along the coast till Antalya. And then to Kapadokya along the silk road.
I need a month more to experience Turkey 🙂

That’s awesome :). I read about all these places but had to choose some out of all. Places like Pamukkale and Cappadocia are just amazing and not seen anywhere else. Yes, one will need months to explore everything. Hope you get your chance soon.

I would be more interested to know about your planning and preparation for the Solo trip. How you selected the destination and was it all spontaneous or well planned?

I am planning for a quick trip in mid august, any of your suggestions would be much appreciated.

P.S. We belong to same city 🙂

      Hi Arpit,

Welcome to my page. I am drafting a new post about how I planned my first solo trip.

About how I selected my destination, you can refer to latest post “Why Turkey” where I have mentioned how I chose Turkey.

About your trip in mid august, first finalize few things like how many days you have in hand and your budget, based on that I can try to suggest something.
